An organization (or organisation — see spelling differences) is a social arrangement which pursues collective goals, which controls its own performance, and which has a boundary separating it from its environment. The word itself is derived from the Greek word ὄργανον (organon [itself derived from the better-known word ἔργον ergon - work; deed - > ergonomics, etc]) meaning tool. The term is used in both daily and scientific English in multiple ways. In the social sciences, organizations are studied by researchers from several disciplines, the most common of which are sociology, economics, political science, psychology, management, and organizational communication. The broad area is commonly referred to as organizational studies, organizational behavior or organization analysis. Therefore, a number of different theories and perspectives exist, some of which are compatible, and others that are competing.

I was recently informed that if you do one year of community service for AmeriCorps you receive an educational award. I desperately need money for college and would enjoy helping organizations in my community but I can't find any programs in my county or those surrounding me. I called AmeriCorps to ask them how I would find charities in my area and they said to look on the website, which I did but again, there doesn't seem to be programs in my county. Is there some other organization I could call to find out about the locations of these organizations? Any other information about AmeriCorps would be greatly appreciated. Most AmeriCorps programs are full time so you can't work, go to school and do AmeriCorps...you can only do one at a time, unless maybe you have a night job. You have to put in 1,700 volunteer hours in 1 year to get your $4,725 education award and you do get paid, but it's not much. There are 3 programs: AmeriCorps*NCCC, where you travel around the US and do a lot of hands on work...you don't have to have a degree. AmeriCorps*Vista...where you stay in one place, you already have to have a degree. AmeriCorps state and national, those you mostly stay in one place, and don't always have to have a degree, these are sometimes part time too. These are usually hands on, like fire-fighting and forestry, but sometimes habitat for humanity. You could decide to spread the donations throughout a few months. I guess they get overwhelmed in early January. All the charities with shops appeal for unwanted gifts to be donated after Xmas. Very few charity shops can take electrical goods. Best to check first. Those that can usually have someone who s qualified to test the items and make sure they re safe to use. Some charity shops will take them, not to sell in the shop but to be sold to recycling schemes or another use found for them.
